A delegation from the General Confederation of Trade Unions (GCTU), led by GCTU General Secretary and Deputy of the Russian State Duma Viktor Pinsky, participated in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Representatives of national trade union centers within the GCTU specifically traveled to Moscow to take part in the event.

"Delegations from fraternal trade unions have been joining us in commemorative events at the Alexander Garden in Moscow for the second year in a row. This year, our comrades from the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan and the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus arrived in Moscow; last year, there were trade unions from Kyrgyzstan and Belarus participating. This is becoming a good tradition that we plan to continue and strengthen. The memory of the heroism of our peoples is a powerful unifying idea for the trade unions of the CIS and for our countries," said Viktor Pinsky.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus was represented by Tatyana Filimonova, Deputy Chairperson of the FTUB, while the delegation of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan was led by Nusuratullo Pardaev, Chairman of the Jizzakh Regional Council of the FTU and Senator of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

At the invitation of the organizer, the Moscow Federation of Trade Unions (MFTU), delegations from the MFTU, GCTU, and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia participate in the event annually on the eve of the Victory Day.

On the eve of May 9, national trade union centers within the GCTU also organize events to commemorate the Victory. Today, in Tajikistan, the leadership and activists of the trade unions of the Sughd Region participated in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the monument "To the Fallen Heroes of the Patriotic War" and the Eternal Flame in Khujand. The memory of the victims of the war and the fallen heroes was honored with a moment of silence.

"The Day of Victory is a symbol of courage, patriotism, resilience, and the unprecedented self-sacrifice of the heroes for us. The feats of the participants in the Great Patriotic War are considered a great example of loyalty to the Motherland for preserving the values of peace and stability for the current generation," the press service of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Tajikistan noted.

A series of events dedicated to Victory Day is being organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus. On May 9, in Minsk, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument and a procession. Exhibitions such as "Facets of the Great Victory" and "History in Hands" – a project reconstructing the events of the Great Patriotic War, as well as the "Preserve History" project, are ongoing. Festive concerts are also planned.

In Yerevan, on May 9, a delegation from the Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia and industrial trade unions will participate in the wreath-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame in Victory Park.

In Uzbekistan, trade unions are congratulating war veterans with financial assistance.

  • CIS Countries Change Their Approach to Women's Labor

A roundtable discussion titled "Labor Protection for Women" was held at the CIS Headquarters with the support of the Advisory Council on Labor, Employment, and Social Protection of the Population of the CIS Member States.

  • For trade unions, March 8 is not just a day of spring and renewal.

For trade unions, March 8 is not just a day of spring and renewal.

For trade unions, March 8 is not merely a day of spring and renewal. Above all, it is an opportunity to once again reflect on the role of women in the world of work and in global development as a whole. Today, women perform 55% of the world’s total labor. They work longer hours than men—by 6 to 13 hours per week—and still earn less: on average, women’s wages amount to 66–84% of men’s wages, depending on the country. There is objective evidence that the more a country values women’s labor and the smaller the gender pay gap, the more developed its economy. A special issue is the “invisibility” of women’s domestic and, as experts call it, reproductive labor. This is why trade unions should continue to fight for justice for working women.

I congratulate all women of the CIS, my colleagues in the parliamentary corps, and women in trade unions on International Women’s Day. I wish you justice, decent work, success, and prosperity!
