CIS trade unions mark World Day for Decent Work
Events for the World Day for Decent Work took place in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
The trade unions' World Day of Action is observed annually on October 7; 2026 marks its 19th year. In Russia, the date coincides with the nationwide campaign “For Decent Work!”, which the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FITUR) runs from September 1 to October 9 under the slogan “Social partnership - a guarantee of decent work for all!”
As part of the campaign, the FITUR Youth Council conducted a survey, “Decent work, for me, means…”, in which young workers named respect for labour and for workers' legal rights, a voice in decision-making, and a decent wage as the key ingredients of decent work.
Across Russia's regions, the campaign featured meetings of tripartite commissions on the regulation of socio-labour relations. At a meeting in Tatarstan, it was noted that, on the initiative of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Tatarstan, an agreement had been signed on a regional minimum wage, which as of January 1 stands at 28,160 roubles - 3.9% above the federal minimum. The tripartite commission of Primorsky Krai approved recommendations on corporate adaptation programmes for participants of the special military operation.
From October 1 to 7, the Technical Labour Inspectorate of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB), together with its social partners, has been inspecting compliance with occupational safety legislation at enterprises.
On October 7, the Youth Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kyrgyzstan is running a social media campaign, “Safe work is our common cause,” and in the run-up to the World Day of Action it held labour rights classes for school students in Bishkek under the programme “I Know My Labour Rights.”
In Tashkent, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan is hosting a national round table, “Current Issues in the World of Work,” bringing together trade unions, government officials, and ministries to discuss changes to labour legislation, public-sector wages, occupational safety, and social protection.
Earlier, GCTU General Secretary Viktor Pinsky, addressing member organisations to mark the World Day for Decebt Work, proposed launching a solidarity campaign: “Set the minimum wage at the level of the minimum consumer budget.”
