National Trade Union Centres of Four CIS Countries to Mark the World Day for Decent Work

Main

On 7 October 2026, trade unions around the world will mark the World Day for Decent Work for the nineteenth time. On that day, member organisations of the General Confederation of Trade Unions will hold events in Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia will run the all-Russian campaign "For Decent Work!" from 1 September to 9 October under the slogan "Social partnership as a guarantee of decent work for all!". Tripartite commissions on the regulation of social and labour relations at all levels, as well as workplace collective meetings, are expected to convene across Russia's regions. In addition, the Youth Council of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia will run its own campaign on VKontakte, with participants sharing what the concept of decent work means to them.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus (FTUB) is preparing several events for the occasion. In September, the Vitebsk region will host a competition of videos celebrating workers and zero workplace injuries. On 26 September, Minsk will host a meeting on public monitoring of working conditions in educational institutions. From 1 to 7 October, the FTUB's technical labour inspectorate, together with social partners, will inspect compliance with occupational safety legislation at enterprises.

On 7 October, the Youth Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kyrgyzstan will organise a flash mob on social media under the banner "Safe Work Is Our Common Cause", along with a seminar titled "Occupational Safety: Rights, Responsibility, Prevention" for trade union activists and young people, and an interactive quiz "Do You Know Your Labour Rights?".

In Tashkent on 7 October, the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan will hold a republican round table on "Current Issues in the Sphere of Labour", bringing together trade unions, the government and ministries. The agenda covers amendments to the country's labour legislation, wages in the public sector, occupational safety and social protection. The event will be opened by its Chairman Kudratilla Rafikov, with reports delivered by representatives of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the Ministry of Economics and Finance, and the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction.
